XenApp 6, Citrix's software for delivering applications on demand to physical or virtual desktops, provides new features to simplify management, increase scalability, and improve the user experience.
Scheduled for release on March 24, XenApp 6 has been verified to scale up to more than 100,000 concurrent users in a single farm, Citrix officials claimed.
It also simplifies application management with AppCenter, a single enterprise-wide management console, and provides "seamless integration" with Microsoft App-V as well as full support for Windows Server 2008 R2.
From the user's perspective, an important change in XenApp 6 is the way the HDX technology has been improved to deliver CD-quality audio and to support more USB devices including webcams, microphones, digital cameras and scanners.
Another significant change is integration with Citrix Dazzle, which allows users to select the applications they need when they need them, without requiring action by IT administrators or support staff.
XenApp 6 also allows the use of hosted Windows applications on Mac OS X and various smart phones including those running iPhone OS, Android and Windows Mobile.
