Macquarie University Hospital is the first Australian customer for a bedside system that resembles modern in-flight entertainment services.
150 HiPath HiMed bedside units from Siemens Enterprise Communications Group (SEN Group) will be installed at Macquarie University Hospital, which is due to open by midyear.
The HiMed Cockpit allows patients to make phone calls, watch TV and movies, listen to the radio, surf the web and play games. It also includes a Wi-Fi hotspot providing Internet access for notebooks, smart phones and other devices.
The Cockpit incorporates hospital information services (eg, meal selection), lighting controls, and the nurse-call system.
That's how the patient sees it. But the Cockpit also acts as an access point for medical and nursing staff.
Smart card controlled access allows retrieval of medical images and diagnostic tests, and other information.
