Engineers Australia ask public for next projects

Business IT - Technology

Launching an AU$2.5 million campaign, Engineers Australia is running a competition asking for public submissions of lofty ideas for an engineering team to 'make so'.

Got an idea for the next great Australian engineering project, the next Snowy Mountains scheme, or a something better than the National Broadband Network?  The country's leading engineering body, Engineers Australia wants to tap your brain.

Australians have the opportunity to submit an idea they would like to be 'made so', with one lucky person having their idea made so by an engineering team.

Peter Taylor, CEO of Engineers Australia says, 'Ideas can be lofty or practical, simple or profound - the more creative the better. From make it so your child automatically has a packed lunch each morning, to make it so you can travel from end to end of this large country in an hour - any idea can be submitted and we urge all Australians to get involved.'

The $2.5 million 'Make it so' public awareness initiative launches nationally on February 16th, aiming to shift Australians' perceptions and increase understanding of the engineering profession, whilst inspiring more Australians to consider careers in the profession.

As part of the launch, Engineers Australia commissioned a social research study, aiming to shed some light on Australia's 'make it so' ambitions. It revealed that over 55% of Australians identified broadband internet as the most important technological advancement made so by engineering in the past decade.

With engineers already set to assist in making the National Broadband Network so in the next decade, Engineers Australia is aiming to unearth the next big idea to be 'made so' in the community.
