Juniper promises to solve operators' wireless broadband problems

Business IT - Technology

Juniper Networks says its has developed solutions to the problems mobile operators face from surging demand for wireless broadband services and in trying to migrate their networks from 3G to 4G services.

The company has announced three new product offerings that, it says, "will address mobile operators' immediate need to optimise traffic and reduce complexity in their mobile networks, while also providing a path for seamless migration from 3G to 4G and LTE networks."

The offerings are part of Juniper's 'Project Falcon' initiative announced last October and are based on its new MX 3D Series universal edge routers, also announced last October, which, according to Juniper, "deliver revolutionary 3D Scaling to help networks scale dynamically to support more bandwidth, subscribers and services."

"3D Scaling" is a reference to Juniper's Trio chipset at the core of the MX 3D. According to Wendy Cartee, vice president of product marketing at Juniper, "What we have done with Trio is to provide scaling along the three dimensions of performance, subscribers and services, dynamically, uncompromised along all three axes."

The three new offerings are: Juniper Traffic Direct; Juniper Media Flow; and Juniper Mobile Core Evolution. The were unveiled as part of a wide ranging series of initiatives targeted at the mobile market, announced by Juniper at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
