Fujitsu implements Digital Archive for Vic Govt

Business IT - Technology

Fujitsu Australia has clamed success for its work on the Public Record Office Victoria (PROV) contract for the design, development and deployment of the Digital Archive, a secure digital records repository accessible via the internet.

The Digital Archive has the capacity to store the equivalent of more than 40km of paper records and is a culmination of the Victorian Electronic Records Strategy (VERS), the State’s information master plan for the long term preservation of public records.

Fujitsu Australia worked with PROV, and technology partner EMC Documentum, to build the business processes and technology necessary to make the Digital Archive a reality.

Justine Heazlewood, director, Public Record Office Victoria, said, “The Fujitsu team worked side-by-side with our internal team to ensure a successful deployment, despite facing many technical challenges along the way.  It was a great example of collaboration by a team of true professionals, in what was, in technology terms, unknown territory.”

Kimberly Martin, enterprise content management manager, Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand said, “More than thirty Fujitsu employees, with expertise across information management, infrastructure services and application services, were involved over the course of the 24-month project.  The project offered us a great opportunity to gain a detailed understanding and long-term view of digital records storage.  It also gave us the chance to demonstrate our capabilities in the area of information management and our extensive skills and best practices around Documentum.”

"Working in close conjunction, PROV, Fujitsu and its technology partners have developed a world class digital archive solution that protects public records, making  this important information more accessible today and for generations to come," said Jean-Pierre Deruddere, executive general manager, Enterprise Solutions, Fujitsu Australia.

Fujitsu will continue to offer technical support to PROV for the next 12 months, through it’s Enterprise Content Management Support Facility.
