The Australian Communications Industry Forum (ACIF) has identified several key VoIP issues following its second annual VoIP Forum held in Sydney yesterday.
The forum identified the most pressing issues for further action a being: - Providing information on all aspects of a VoIP offering and ensuring that all providers are aware of the requirements; - Developing discussion papers on defining a quality of service for VoIP services and examining issues of interconnection and interoperability; - Beginning the development of a dictionary of terms used in the VoIP space to provide clarity for all stakeholders. The Forum brought together carriers, service providers, vendors, systems integrators, industry associations, government agencies and consumer groups to examine regulatory and technical issues relating to the provision of VoIP in the wake of release last week by communications minister Helen Coonan of a report prepared by DCITA on the regulation of VoIP services. Coonan said the Government had accepted all the report's recommendations. Bookings for the event exceeded the 100 seat capacity of the venue and ACIF CEO, Anne Hurley, said the level of interest was "a resounding vindication of ACIF's belief that our industry has the maturity to tackle difficult issues like VoIP without the need for imposed regulation."
