Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
NetComm has launched the NB9W MyNetGateway, an all-in-one integrated access device (IAD) that incorporates an ADSL2+ modem/router, wireless access point/bridge and VoIP gateway.
According to NetComm, it replaces what were traditionally four separate devices, without making any compromises in functionality or performance.
"By far the most powerful feature of this new product is the built-in VoIP gateway featuring two FXS (phone) ports," said Brett Stevens, senior product engineer, NetComm. "This allows for two normal analogue phones to be connected to the NB9W [which] can be configured with two VoIP accounts with the same VoIP provider. It is ideal for a home office or small office situation where there might be two different businesses at the same premises, allowing them to run separate VoIP phone accounts."
The router also complements the VoIP functionality by employing policy-based Layer 3 quality of service (QoS) which allows the user to place priority on voice packets. According to NetComm, "this ensures that VoIP call quality remains excellent even during periods of heavy Internet use." However this prioritising is only at the expense of whatever other traffic the user might be trying to send or receive: It has no impact on prioritisation of traffic within the broadband access service.
The NB9W also has an FXO (line) port for connection of a regular telephone service for public switched telephone network (PSTN) backup and to receive inbound and make outbound 'landline' calls.
