BI seen as revenue earner, not just money or time saver

Business IT - Technology

Users of business intelligence solutions now see BI as a revenue earner more so than a way of saving time and money, according to a survey of Australian users.

According to Inside Info, a survey of more than 100 specialist BI users found there is a perception that within medium to large enterprises, BI is now perceived as a revenue-generator ahead of saving time and money for the business.

Inside Info managing director, Stuart Barnard said the survey, conducted at a conference of users of QlikView BI software, revealed that BI experts and users will prioritise business intelligence software in 2009/2010 to deliver “greater operational visibility and uncover business opportunities (74%), suggesting BI within medium-large enterprises is perceived as a revenue-generator ahead of saving time and money.”

Barnard, said that, overwhelmingly, business intelligence software is used right across the enterprise, with senior management the primary users of BI and reporting (93 per cent), with sales and finance teams a joint second.

Barnard said of those attending the conference, 29 per cent wanted to learn about QlikView 9’s advanced visualisations, which was launched by Inside Info at the conference, and a further 17 percent were interested in global search capabilities of data.
