iPhone 3GS sold out in Australia?

Business IT - Technology

Apple’s online store makes no mention of the iPhone being sold out, but it does note that delivery is expected to take 5 to 7 days.

Apple’s King St store in Sydney was also sold out of iPhone 3GS models just over a month ago when friends came from interstate to do business in Sydney, forcing us to instead buy an iPhone from the Telstra store across the road as they, at the time, had stock in play.

So… if you want a shiny new iPhone 3GS, which is very nicely improved over the previous 2008 iPhone 3G and the original 2007 iPhone model, and you haven’t already snapped one up, you may need to wait at least a week or two longer.

But if you wait too long, you might find you don’t want an iPhone 3GS.

Why? Because new iPod Touch models with 5 megapixel cameras and 64GB of storage are supposedly on the way, which will appeal to some people over an iPhone, and there's also the much rumoured Apple iTablet/netbook/MacBook.

iTablet to me seems just a bit too long a name – what about iPad?

Clearly it depends on who owns the iPad trademark, but given it’s so close to iPod, I hope they’ll use it.

Time will tell, and in the meantime, iPhones continue to sell, and sell out, and whether Apple is slowing down supply a little or not, it's clear the iPhone is genuinely popular, with the shortage only making it more so.

It bodes well for the iPad/iTablet which really can’t arrive soon enough, and which will undoubtely go through a few supply issues of its own, too.

If you're looking for an iPhone 3GS, then patience is all you need. Good luck!
