Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
The 11th Australian national Linux conference is still more than five months away but the pieces are already falling into place with two of three keynote speakers having been finalised.
The two who have accepted invitations to speak at LCA2010 are Benjamin Mako Hill, a programmer and free software and culture activist, and Nathan Torkington, a New Zealander who is a Perl hacker, author and creator of the NZ Open Government Project.
Hill is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is Debian developer and on the board of the Free Software Foundation. He has two interesting and amusing blogs - Copyrighteous and Revealing Errors .
Torkington was in the US for some years but is now back in his own country and describes himself as "looking to build networks of open source innovators, entrepreneurs, and emerging technologists in New Zealand."
He is credited with running the first web server in New Zealand and encourages the next generation of free software hackers by teaching children how to program using languages that are not unencumbered.
The last date for submission of papers for presentation at the conference was July 31 and the programme listing the accepted papers and the different streams under which they will be grouped will be available sometime in September.
The conference proper will be held in Wellington from January 18 to 22 next year. An open day will be held on the 23rd.
