iTunes Store spreads south of the border

If you thought it took a long time for Apple to set up the iTunes Store in Australia, think again: it's only just arrived in Mexico!

Apple has opened the virtual shutters of the iTunes Store in Mexico, with most tracks selling for 12 pesos.

That converts to $A1.09, which is rather less than the $A1.69 usually charged at the Australian store. It also converts to $US0.91, again less than the $US0.99 or $US1.29 typically seen in the US store.

In addition to the usual international artists, the iTunes Store in Mexico features music from local acts including Paulina Rubio, Vicente Fernández and Zoé.

Most albums cost 120 pesos. Local music videos are also available, typically priced at 24 pesos.

"The iTunes Store in Mexico is off to a great start with music from all of the majors and hundreds of indie labels," said Eddy Cue, Apple's vice president of Internet services.

"And the revolutionary App Store in Mexico gets bigger and better with great new apps using amazing new features, and we can’t wait to see what developers come up with next," he added.

Purchasing from the iTunes Store in Mexico requires a credit card with a Mexican billing address or a local iTunes gift voucher. Vouchers are available from Liverpool, Mixup, Office Depot, El Palacio de Hierro, Sanborns, iShop, iStore and MacStore.
