OzHub, the Macquarie Telecom-led cloud computing alliance, has come down firmly on the side of Optus over the copyright controversy surrounding Optus TV Now, warning that any moves to change the law "risk branding Australia a global luddite state."
The leader of the CentOS GNU/Linux project, Lance Davis, who had gone missing for a while and caused other developers on the team some angst, has reappeared and held a meeting with them, according to a notice on the project website.
CentOS (the Community Enterprise Operating System) is basically Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) without the trademarks; hence it is binary-compatible with RHEL.
The eight members of the development team had written an open letter to Davis last week, expressing concern as Davis had not been contactable since late 2008.
The website now has a notice that reads: "The CentOS Development team had a routine meeting today (August 1) with Lance Davis in attendance.
"During the meeting a majority of issues were resolved immediately and a working agreement was reached with deadlines for remaining unresolved issues. There should be no impact to any CentOS users going forward."
The issues referred to were the control of the centos.org domain and the income that the project had been earned, both of which were solely under Davis' control.
The statement said: "The CentOS project is now in control of the CentOS.org and CentOS.info domains and owns all trademarks, materials, and artwork in the CentOS distributions."
"We look forward to working with Lance to quickly complete all the agreed upon issues."
