Tata to switch all Gotalk's international traffic

Gotalk is to outsource routing of all its overseas voice traffic to Tata Communications which will install an international gateway switch in Sydney to handle the Gotalk traffic.

Gotalk, which offers fixed line VoIP services, and prepaid phonecard services, claims to deliver more than one billion minutes of international traffic per month - around 20 percent of Australia's international voice traffic

Gotalk CEO Steve Picton told iTWire that, through its relationship with Tata Communications, Gotalk would be able to consolidate and integrate multiple international switching platforms, which have been accumulated through a variety of acquisitions and which it presently manages itself, to a single platform operated by Tata Communications.

However he said that Gotalk would continue to be responsible for the commercial arrangements with overseas carriers that it uses to deliver its international traffic, one of which wil be Tata Communications. In turn, Tata will use Gotalk's interconnects with Australian domestic networks to deliver its incoming voice traffic.

According to Tata Communications "This fully hosted reporting, provisioning and traffic monitoring platform will allow Gotalk to maintain operational control over its core routing without owning or deploying any new technology, enabling the provider to focus on market expansion while also reducing capital investment." Tata Communications will also provide its VTS Prime solution, billed as a high quality international voice termination service.

The agreement also gives Gotalk the rights to sell Tata branded or cobranded prepaid calling cards in Australia and elsewhere. Picton said that these would be sold to Australian residents from India and its neighbours. Although the Tata brand is almost unknown in Australia it is a household name in the Subcontinent - across a huge range of products and services.
