Business IT - Technology

According to E.L.Consult, government executive jobs growth continued last month but has slowed slightly over recent trends, with governments across Australia looking for more financial, management, IT and marketing executives during the month, with engineering positions the only fall, albeit after a very strong growth in the previous month.

Montgomery says demand for executives in the private sphere was again patchy, “but they were generally less negative than in previous months," allowing the index to record the 0% overall result. Finance and information technology recorded the best results overall.

“Most typically the pessimists remain in the private sector, all governments are continuing to employ at quite a healthy clip,” Montgomery said, adding that Queensland and the ACT recorded the strongest results among the regions, benefiting from an increase in infrastructure spending and government demand respectively.

“There is a lot of activity in ACT, and Queensland is showing private sector growth and infrastructure investment. Western Australia has kept itself in reasonable shape and after a horror start to the year NSW’s falls have been limited to -1% in the past three months.”
