Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
The service grew out of the previous GrandCentral, which Google acquired almost two years ago.
With Google Voice, a user gets one phone number that can be set to ring any or all of the user's "regular" phones -- work phone only during office hours, home phone only in the evening, cell phone at all times, or any other combination.
The service can also vary how a call is handled depending on the originating number -- some can go right to voice mail, some get a "no telemarketers" message, some (your mom?) always ring through.
Voicemail, with transcripts, can be retrieved over the Web, and SMS text messages are stored in a searchable archive.
The preview of Google Voice was announced back in March and until this week was only available to existing GrandCentral users.
Now the preview is being expanded to include others who signed up for the service. Invitation requests are still being accepted here.
