As events in Iran continue to play out in cyberspace as well as in the streets, an Iranian hacker has sent a nasty note to President Obama via the University of Oregon website.

The battle for control of Internet communications in Iran has been a constant theme since the current uprising began.

Early reports of protests against the vote count were spread primarily via Twitter and other social networking sites, well before the traditional news reporting channels picked up the story.

Since then, the Iranian government, the protesters, and supporters of both sides have been engaged in a game of dog-and-cat-and-mouse, trying to control what information is getting out.

The government has used the limited connection the country has to the worldwide Internet to restrict its use, censor content, and allegedly track people posting material in support of the protesters.

Supporters of the government have also allegedly posed as protesters on Twitter to spread disinformation both internally and for foreign consumption.

Meanwhile, supporters of the protesters have set up Twitter accounts with false time zone information to make them look like they're inside Iran, hoping to overwhelm the government's monitoring efforts.
