Take me at face-value say NT MPs

Business IT - Technology

The Able Security group has deployed a facial recognition system in the Northern Territory parliament building in Darwin in what the company believes to be a first in biometric security access for an Australian parliamentary building.

The Queensland company has installed “Fastpass” 3D facial recognition readers and EnrolCam from US manufacturer L1 Identity Solutions, formerly Bioscrypt.

Able’s managing director, Trevor May, said the NT Parliament wanted a non intrusive biometric authentication solution as an added layer of security to complement the existing proximity card access control platform.

May said the parliament’s director of security had been impressed by the demonstration of the Bioscrypt system at a security industry event and, he added, “we have received favourable feedback since the system was installed about both its speed and accuracy.”

According to May, Bioscrypt is the only facial recognition system available in Australia with a “proven international track record in a variety of industries, from immigration authorities to banking and finance.”

Able was contracted to supply the $80,000 system by Honeywell Automation & Control Solutions, who manage the NT Parliament building and provide electronic security for the parliament.
