Sybase for Western Union digital vendor program

Western Union has selected Sybase mobile messaging and commerce subsidiary, Sybase 365, as a provider to its mobile money transfer services.

Sybase 365 will participate in Western Union’s digital vendor program for its mWallet and mBanking platforms.

Western Union says it has created the digital vendor program to extend the reach and accessibility of Western Union money transfer services to mobile finance initiatives in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

The head of Western Union Digital Ventures, Matt Dill, said that establishing a strong mobile vendor program was a critical step in the delivery of the company’s ‘Western Union Anywhere’ service proposition.

“By collaborating on a global level with proven mobile platform providers, we believe we can simplify deployments for our mobile partners and introduce a more consistent Western Union experience for consumers.”

Sybase 365 VP mCommerce, Matthew Talbot, said the partnership with Western Union furthered Sybase’s strategy to build global partnerships that would “facilitate a secure mobile finance eco-system benefitting mobile subscribers, mobile operators and financial institutions around the world.”

Talbot claimed that “as the only vendor with the broadest global mCommerce offering, Sybase 365 has enabled interoperability between mobile operator networks, has established industry reference points and live mCommerce deployments to more than 15 million end-users and 20,000 merchants.”

Sybase’s mobiliser solution enables users to pay, buy, bank and remit money with a mobile device.
