Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Participants in the Palm Pre-oriented community PreCentral.net have discovered how to add unsigned applications to the smartphone, opening the way for users to experiment with homebrewed applications.
On June 20, Jason Robitaille described on the PreCentral blog how installing homebrew apps that didn't have official Pre App Catalog approval required hacking into the root of the Pre's operating system.
However, Robitaille continued, one user had discovered that while clicking links to .ipk app files from the Pre browser didn't work, clicking them from within an e-mail apparently did.
Then on Monday, the blog described a proof-of-concept app that demonstrated that getting an app in e-mail was a viable way of installing one without "rooting" your Pre.
As of today, the site has added a new forum for sharing homemade applications, both those that require rooting and those that don't.
Posting an app requires developer access, but downloading an app just requires membership.
There's also a new forum for getting Pre wallpapers via e-mail.
