Mitel joins VMware vSphere 4 bandwagon

Business IT - Technology

Unified communications vendor Mitel is riding VMware's vSphere 4 tsunami with a strategic collaboration between the two companies.

The effort between Mitel and VMware will see Mitel's Communications Director and voice applications run efficiently in virtualised environments.

"Mitel's communications software approach easily adapts to a virtualised environment," said Stephen Beamish, vice-president business development and marketing at Mitel.

"VMware's position as a global leader in virtualisation and Mitel's leadership in voice applications globally, makes real-time applications virtualised in the data center easily accessible to businesses," he added.

Parag Patel, VMware's vice president for alliances, said "VMware vSphere 4 is the next-generation platform that helps customers take advantage of the undeniable cost benefits of virtualisation today while providing an easy path to delivering reliable and adaptable IT services through cloud computing."

"We look forward to working with Mitel to provide joint solutions that leverage virtualisation in new ways, providing the best place for customers to run real-time applications. Our joint solutions will be designed to provide unparalleled efficiency and value to customers at both the telephony application layer as well as the platform layer," added Patel.

No indication was given of when the fruits of the collaboration can be expected.
