To boost the ShareSpace's media-sharing capability, the built-in iTunes server is now augmented with a UPnP/DLNA-compliant media server, providing compatibility with Windows Vista PCs, Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and other devices such as certain digital photo frames.
Other features include the automatic transfer of data from an external USB hard disk to the ShareSpace, remote web access, a download manager, an FTP server, and Active Directory support.
Additional drives can be connected to the USB ports for backup purposes or to increase the total capacity of the unit.
Talking of backup, the ShareSpace also includes automatic backup software for three PCs.
"With its huge capacity and small footprint, WD ShareSpace has become a popular choice among small business owners. By doubling capacity and increasing transfer speeds, the new 8T WD ShareSpace offers more value to small business users," said Jim Welsh, senior vice president and general manager of WD's branded products and consumer electronics groups.
"Digital media enthusiasts, on the other hand, will really appreciate the new streaming support which lets them easily stream to PCs, Macs and game consoles. With the new WD ShareSpace, we have made important improvements for all our customers," he added.
The 8T ShareSpace costs $A3799.99.
