LaCie turns SD cards into flash drives

Business IT - Technology

Storage vendor LaCie's new DataShare provides a home for old SD and microSD memory cards by using them as memory for a flash drive.

The little (70 x 35 x 13 mm) device is actually two flash drives in one -- one side has an SD slot, and the other a microSD slot.

Pull the two apart, and you have two separate drives, one for you and one to share.

The DataShare supports Windows 2000, XP, or Vista, as well as Mac OS X 10.3.5 or later. The press release says it also supports Linux, but the spec sheet doesn't confirm that.

LaCie DataShare

It was designed by the French firm 5.5 designers, who are also responsible for LaCie's key-shaped flash drives.

Included in the box is a USB extension cable, a strap for a key ring, and a microSD to SD card adapter.

The DataShare is available through the U.S. LaCie online store for US$9.99, and in Australia for AU$29.99.
