Internode to offer 3G wireless broadband on Optus network

Business IT - Technology

ISP Internode will launch a 3G wireless broadband service on Tuesday 28 April, NodeMobile Data, by reselling the Optus wireless broadband service.

There are two initial plans, both available casually or on contract: a 250MB plan costing $14.95 a month and a 3GB plan for $39.95 a month. An included SMS origination service costs 25 cents per message. Customers signing up for a 24 month contract can get a $199 USB modem at no charge. Non-contract customers can bring their own modem and buy a SIM for a $25 activation fee.

Services are not throttled once the data quota is reached, instead users have the option as with Internode's ADSL services of buying additional data blocks: $10 for 250MB; $20 for 500MB; and $40 for 1GB. As with Internode's ADSL data blocks, these blocks expire at the month end of the service for which they are bought and any unused data is forfeit. Details of the service will be available from 28 April on http://www.internode.on.net/nodemobile.

Internode product manager Jim Kellett said: “While our first NodeMobile-Data plans provide mobile broadband with a dynamic IP address, over time we intend to develop a wider range of business-focused applications such as a static IP backup for Business ADSL and various types of connectivity to our Internode Business Connect private IP service.”
