3 now roaming onto Telstra Next G

Business IT - Technology

The new roaming arrangement came into force this week.

One wrinkle is that users within black spots inside 3's broadband zone will continue to roam onto Telstra's GSM network, not Next G.

The same applies to some areas on the boundary between 3's broadband zone and Next G roaming areas. Examples include parts of the Dandenongs to Melbourne's east, and parts of the corridor between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

The company claims that its coverage area now extends to 96 percent of the population.

Roaming charges are 50c per megabyte for customers using X-Series Packs, or $2 per megabyte for casual use.

Prepaid customers are charged $8 (Bonus) or $5 (Cap) per megabyte.

Monthly mobile broadband users will be up for 50c per megabyte (previously $1.65), while prepaid customers will get 15M for $7.50 instead of the old 4M allowance.
