And according to reports, Taiwanese manufacturers are ready to jump on board.

DigiTimes Systems has reported that Compal Electronics claims to have a contract from Dell to produce CULV-based notebooks.

Compal reportedly is also competing for orders from Toshiba and Lenovo.

Meanwhile, backlit-LED makers in Taiwan are preparing for a rush of business to come their way.

The CULV notebooks are predicted to boost penetration of LED-backlit notebooks to 70 to 80 percent of the market by the end of this year, up from 40 percent at the start.

LED-backlit screens save up to half the power used by standard CCFL-based models, making them a good match for the ultra-low-voltage CPUs.
