Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
The company targets its service at "the 94 percent of users who do not regularly back up their computers."
With that in mind, the intention is to make it as easy as possible: it requires just a download and registration to install, and it automatically backs up everything except the operating system, applications, temp files, and files larger than 4 GB.
Based on feedback during the beta trials, Backblaze also enables the backing up of external USB and Firewire drives.
The company boasts "military-grade encryption" on the local computer, transmission over an encrypted connection, and encrypted storage. Users can also use their own encryption key.
Users can browse their backups online and restore any amount from one file to everything. They can also ask for a DVD or USB drive to be overnighted to them.
The service works with Intel Macs running Leopard (as well as Windows XP, Vista, and 7) and costs US$5 per machine per month, with a 15-day free trial.
