Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Microsoft announces an update to SQL Server 2008 as a freely downloadable service pack, which is probably just as well as there is not a lot to get excited about.
SQL Server 2008 was a huge leap forward from SQL Server 2005 in terms
of both performance and scalability, according to many customers and
reviewers alike, with new developer tools and a policy-based management
system being singled out for particular praise.
Now there Microsoft has announced the
availability of an update in the form of SQL Server 2008 SP1
which can be downloaded from today.
Those who have helped push SQL Server 2008 downloads past the 3 million
barrier will no doubt be pleased to hear that this is a no cost update.
They might be a little less happy when they realise that's because it
adds no new features.
SQL Server SP1 is, according to Microsoft, primarily "a roll-up of
previous cumulative updates" and while it admits it is bereft of new
features Microsoft was quick to point out that there are "key
improvements" which include "increased supportability and stability."
The three main improvements of note would appear to be:
Slipstream, which enables administrators to install SQL Server 2008 and
Service Pack 1 in a single instance so decreasing the total
installation time and reducing the number of reboots.
Report Builder 2.0 Click Once, which Microsoft says will improve the
existing SQL Server end-user report authoring application. Specifically
by "easing deployment to business users."
Service Pack Uninstall, which enables administrators to uninstall the service pack separately from the database release.
SQL Server 2008 SPI is available immediately for all seven SQL Server 2008 editions in 32-bit, 64-bit and ia64 guises.
