Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Kerio WinRoute Firewall is a well-established unified threat management gateway that runs on Windows.
The headline feature of version 6.6, which was released today, is a new VPN client for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux to support multi-platform sites. New in the Windows client is services mode, which establishes a VPN connection as part of the login process.
WinRoute Firewall now supports WINS propagation of the Network Neighborhood, making it "totally transparent" for roving and remote users, said Jason Drew, IT director and system architect at Secom Technology.
Sydney-based Secom is one of Kerio's preferred partners, and is the only IT company to hold Kerio certifications in both messaging and security.
Secom has an extensive client list including various licensed clubs. Clients range in size from five to 150 users, with around 40 being typical. The company also has some enterprise customers such as Qantas which only buy Kerio software licences.
Secom typically configures systems so that all wireless LAN traffic goes through WinRoute so the gateway (not the access points) takes care of encryption and authentication.
Another factor that makes WinRoute attractive to the company's clients is the provision of content filtering (52 categories) along with optional antivirus scanning using McAfee technology.
Other third-party scanners are supported, and some of Secom's clients have opted for a dual-scanning approach.
WinRoute's flexibility and security plays an important part in letting Secom meet its clients' requirements.
"In seven years I haven't had a firewall breach," said Drew. While that does depend on the product being set up correctly, the default settings are quite conservative, he explained.
Kerio WinRoute Firewall licences start at $US329 for ten users, or $US395 including McAfee AntiVirus.
