ETSI's VoIP testing comes to Asia

Business IT - Technology

The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) will hold its next VoIP Speech Quality Test event, the fourth in the series and the first to be held in Asia, in Taiwan in November.

The event will be hosted and co-implemented by Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI). Vendors can submit their VoIP equipment for testing its speech quality. According to ETSI, " All conversational aspects like speech sound quality, echo measurements, double talk performance and the transmission quality in the presence of background noise are considered." These will be single vendor tests and not interoperability tests between different manufacturers. HEAD acoustics will perform the speech quality measurement on the VoIP equipment of participating manufacturers.

In the main event (7th - 11th November) each manufacturer will have one exclusive testing day. According to ETSI, "They will learn how the equipment performs under different test conditions and gain useful information for system optimisation in a special consulting part."

There will also be a "Short Tests" event (14th - 18th November) at which attendees will receive guidance and tuition on the evolution of speech quality tests, coordinated by experts from HEAD acoustics.

Information on the test series is at the following websites.

4th VoIP Speech Quality Test Event (SQTE): http://www.etsi.org/plugtests/4thSQTE.htm.

Speech Quality Short Tests & Conference: http://www.etsi.org/plugtests/SQTE.htm

ESTI has not named any of the vendors taking part.
