Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
These submissions are not genuine programs. They appear to be legitimate contest entries that have been overwritten by malicious persons.
The majority of submissions have been corrupted in this way, and now possess clearly ridiculous titles and descriptions, and author names. Some have just junk text like “a” and “ds.”
What is more interesting are the lines “nickini yazmaya götü yememis heralde” which translates poorly from Turkish into “nickini writing take away meal heralde.”
Another states “TERRORIST CREW LAMERDIR :) KONU AÇARAK HACKED” which translated (again, poorly) into “TERRORIST CREW LAMERDIR :) SUBJECT APERITIF HACKED.”
A Google search on “Lamerdir” reveals several hacking-site postings which reference this name, strongly suggesting a Turkish hacking group is claiming credit for the site’s defacing.
Other postings are less cryptic; a person by the online name Ov3rlord ruined some entries and was happy to plaster his name all over them, the descriptions now reading “HACKED BY OV3RLORDHACKED BY OV3RLORDHACKED BY OV3RLORDHACKED BY OV3RLORD HACKED BY OV3RLORD HACKED BY OV3RLORDHACKED BY OV3RLORDHACKED BY OV3RLORD HACKED BY OV3RLORD HACKED BY OV3RLORDHACKED BY OV3RLORD HACKED BY OV3RLORDHACKED BY OV3RLORDHACKED BY OV3RLORDHACKED BY OV3RLORDHACKED BY OV3RLORD HACKED BY OV3RLORDHACKED BY OV3RLORDHACKED BY OV3RLORD HACKED BY OV3RLORD.”
It’s possible this is Ov3rlord’s web site but little information is presented about the shady character.
Even though the identities of Lamerdir and Ov3rlord aren’t clear, one thing is certain: Microsoft won’t be forgetting the embarrassment caused to their DevSta challenge. And unless the volume of submissions increase dramatically within the next 19 hours someone may be awarded an Xbox for doing nothing more than rewriting the Windows calculator as a .NET app.
