Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Chinese company PrettyMay has developed what it says is the only Skype-certified software PBX for Windows. It enables business to advertise a single SkypeIn phone number, and handle up to 30 simultaneous incoming calls and up to 500 extensions, which could be in multiple locations.
According to PrettyMay, "Skype PBX software...saves small businesses money. One client said that their phone bill went from $US600 per month to $US36 per year with an investment of only $US1200... and with Skype PBX software, small businesses can be confident that calls will not get lost and they will always be easy to contact."
That's a moot point. Certainly the product is cheap: a five user licence will set you back $US200 and an unlimited version $US500. PrettyMay claims that all you need to run it is "just a reasonably well-specified Windows PC." And you don't even need desk phones - Skype on a PC will do the job.
More specifically you need Windows XP or Windows server 2003 to support multiple simultaneous lines (Windows 2000/Vista currently support only one line) and for 2-5 users an Intel Pentium D 2.8G or higher and at least 1GB RAM or higher. For more than 10 lines an Intel Xeon 5410 2.33G or higher and at least 2GB RAM are recommended.
