MXP4 promises 4D music file format

Business IT - Technology

The free-to-download MXP4Player allows listeners to select the 'skin' they want, or use an auto-mode to surprise them. It reminds me of those 'twin-grooved' 7" vinyl singles that appeared during the New Wave era of the late seventies by artists such as John Cooper Clarke.

Those of a certain age will recall his Splat/Twat single which either played a version complete with multiple swears, or one with the offending words replaced by ludicrous sound effects such as toilets flushing, depending entirely upon which groove the record player stylus happened to pick up.

Of course, MXP4 is a bit more complicated than that.

For a start, it adds multimedia content to the file so that text, artwork, photographs, and lyrics can be introduced into the mix and output during playback.

Musinaut CEO, Trish Thomson says "The music industry is looking for new and creative ways to present their artists and increase revenue. MXP4 technology has come at timely point giving artists and the industry a new and dynamic way they can offer richer content to consumers."

Claiming that current recorded music is both static and two dimensional, Thomson continues "MXP4 technology makes it far more exciting and dynamic by giving it extra dimensions enabling artists to be more expressive and giving listeners a more interesting, fun and interactive experience."

Electro-pop artist songwriter Margaux has taken MXP4 to heart, using it to finish recording her new album 'Spookydubois at Corfe Castle.'

"It's given me the freedom to go beyond musical boundaries and opens up an endless amount of new possibilities" she says, adding "as an artist, songwriting was becoming formulaic and boring, but using MXP4 technology I can now be surprised by my own music."

But not as surprised as I will be if this takes off in any big way, unless the likes of Apple can be persuaded to start supporting the format...
