NetSuite first Chrome-plated on-demand business suite: claim

Business IT - Technology

Computing business applications provider NetSuite claims to be the first to officially support Google's new Chrome browser.

Chrome was announced last week and gained a one percent web share on its first day.

NetSuite already supports Apple's Safari browser in addition to Internet Explorer and Firefox. Since Chrome uses the same HTML engine as Safari (WebKit), the major aspect that NetSuite might have needed to accommodate is Chrome's new V8 JavaScript engine.

The whole point of V8 is to allow web applications such as NetSuite execute more quickly by converting the JavaScript into machine code for the CPU being used.

"At NetSuite, we strive to offer our customers the latest innovations that will enable the greatest degree of choice, flexibility and productivity," said Per Jakobsen, Vice President of Product Management at NetSuite.

"We salute Google for the innovation they’ve offered in their new Chrome browser and are pleased to be able to offer early support for Chrome to all NetSuite customers," he added.

NetSuite's support for Chrome is being progressively rolled out, and should be complete by the middle of October.

Any changes made to subsequent releases of Chrome could have implications for NetSuite and other developers of web applications.
