SSL VPN (secure socket layer virtual private network) product developer, Aventail has made its technology available for PDAs and Smart Phones.
The product, Aventail Mobile, is claimed to be "the most complete SSL VPN for mobile devices, providing easy access to applications from virtually any mobile device with complete security and granular access control". It supports "all major operating systems, including Blackberry, Palm, Windows Mobile, DoCoMo, and Symbian".
According to Aventail. Aventail Mobile is closely aligned with the PC version of its product, which means that users access applications on their mobile device via the same URL and authentication method they use for access on other systems. Also, Aventail Mobile is integrated into Aventail's centralised policy model enabling administrators to set-up and control mobile device access along with desktop systems.
Aventail Mobile also optimises the application content on each mobile device, so a user receives access only to those applications that are appropriate for his device, rather than being shown links to applications that would never work.
The product comes in two version WorkPlace Mobile and Connect Mobile. WorkPlace Mobile is a customised Web portal, allowing clientless access to Web-based applications. Connect Mobile is a light-weight, Web-deployed agent that provides Windows Mobile PDA users with broad access to both Web and client/server applications.
