Symantec has today announced the opening of a new 'Virtualisation Solutions Labs' in Japan as part of an ongoing global virtualisation strategy...
The lab has been designed to allow Symantec Japan to both test and,
importantly, optimise the Symantec product range for use within
specific virtual environments as quickly as possible.
Symantec claims that with this new facility
on-hand, customers and partners will be able to gain a hands-on feel
for Symantec product deployments within their own environments. A wise
move as increasingly customers are deploying virtualisation
technologies within mission critical systems where both end-point
security and data centre management solutions are a necessity.
According to the Symantec press release
"Symantec provides comprehensive solutions to meet customers and
partners' needs, which enable them to manage physical and virtual
infrastructures consistently. Opening the new Virtualisation Solutions
Lab is the next phase in Symantec's efforts to support customers and
partners."
Symantec Japan is planning to work very closely with both Citrix
Systems and Microsoft in testing virtualisation solutions for CitrixXen
Server and Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V environments at the lab, as well
as VMware Infrastructure 3 testing.
Located within the Japan Engineering Center at Symantec Japan's
headquarters, responsible for all the technological verification before
products are released into the Japanese market, the Virtualisation
Solutions Lab promises to introduce "comprehensive virtualisation
solutions for data centres in VMware environments."
Solutions which include:
Comprehensive backup solutions using Veritas NetBackup for VMware environments
Failover solutions with high availability of guest OS and VMware applications using Veritas Cluster Server
Backup and restore solutions for P2V (physical to virtual) system images using Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery
Deployment solutions for virtual servers using the Symantec Altiris platform
“As the need to effectively utilise IT resources such as hardware, OS,
and applications with virtualisation technology increases, the primary
issues for virtualisation environments are ensuring a consistent level
of availability and reliability for the physical environment and
further improvements in the ease of operation” said Susumu Kagayama,
President of Symantec Japan. “We are very pleased to be offering our
customers and partners the opportunity to gain hands-on experience of
the latest virtualisation solutions at our new Virtualisation Solutions
Lab.”
