Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Telco billing software developer, CSG Systems has introduced CSG Broker, a system to provide real-time, two-way active mediation between advanced networks including 3G and IP and business support systems such as pre- and postpaid billing to enable the exchange of control and charging information.
It is designed to communicate information in real time about consumer activity and content services transactions through functions such as advice of charge, authentication, authorisation, session control etc using protocols such as Diameter, widely used in IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) transactions. Service Broker fits within CSG's Kenan FX family of products and, according to CSG, can be used as a real-time processing layer to complement CSG Data Mediation and all CSG rating, charging and invoicing products across wireless, wireline and broadband operations. It also provides real-time communication to CSG's authorisation and charging manager solution (formerly known as CSG Kenan Prepaid). CSG's announcement quoted Paul Hughes, vice president of communications software strategies research at the Yankee Group, saying that customer demand for instant access to services like games, video, SMS messages no matter where they are or what device they choose was placing increasing pressure on telecom service providers' OSS/BSS infrastructure to respond to these requests whether they are data or video, prepaid or postpaid, within milliseconds. "Vendors like CSG Systems, with its Service Broker platform, have recognised this need and are delivering solutions to help operators effectively address this challenge," he said. His comments echo those of a new report from Dittberner Associates (see below) which warns that OSS/BSS shortcomings could hamper the role out triple play services.
