Avaya & Intel team to improve wireless VoIP

Business IT - Technology

Avaya says it is working with Intel to enhance the quality of IP voice over wireless networks by optimising its Avaya SIP-based softphone for laptop PCs based on the Intel Centrino chipset. The companies will also collaborate to improve the integration, control and functionality of Bluetooth devices used in conjunction with the softphone.

The Avaya Softphone will be optimised for the next generation of Intel Centrino mobile technology (code-named Napa), incorporating packet prioritisation, bandwidth reservation and call admission control. The two companies say that, while it is widely understood that voice must be given priority over a data network, they are working to extend that concept to laptop PCs.
