Free web-based Photoshop arrives

Business IT - Technology

It took a year rather than six months, but Adobe Photoshop Express has finally arrived - at least in beta.

Photoshop Express is a web-based photo storage, editing and sharing service. Adobe is presenting it as a tool for the masses.

"Photoshop Express allows anyone who snaps a digital photo to easily achieve the high-impact results for which Adobe is known," said Doug Mack, vice president of consumer and hosted solutions at Adobe.

Once photos (JPEG only) have been uploaded from the user's PC, a range of easy to use editing tools is available, including crop & rotate, auto correct, red-eye removal, sharpen, pop color (for that greyscale plus one colour look) and distort.

Several of the tools make life easy for the beginner by offering thumbnail views that show the effect of certain settings and can be selected with a single click. Finer control is often available via one or more sliders.

The original image is always preserved when edits are made.

Photos can be sent by email, organised into albums (which may optionally be shared with 'friends' or made public via the gallery feature), displayed as slideshows, embedded in web pages, or exchanged with Facebook, Photobucket and Picasa. Other users' galleries can be explored within Photoshop Express
