Acrobat Reader update fixes vulnerabilities

Business IT - Technology

The Windows and Mac OS X versions of Adobe Reader have been updated to address security vulnerabilities plus workflow and stability issues.

Available for Windows 2000, XP, 2003 Server and Vista as well as Mac OS X 10.4 and later, the Adobe Reader 8.1.2 update installs a complete new version rather than patching the existing code. Consequently, the download is around 22M.

At the time of writing, Reader 8.1.2 did not appear on Adobe's "latest updates" list, but can be obtained here.

More than two dozen changes are documented, including improvements to the behavior of Reader enabled forms usage rights, printing on HP-based printers, and when posting data with Safari on the Macintosh and Firefox on Windows.

Other fixes include corrections for the behaviour of read-only fields when using direct rendering, and of protected expandable fields in dynamic forms.
