FileMaker update delivers Leopard compatibility

Business IT - Technology

The 9.0v2 update for FileMaker Pro and FileMaker Pro Advanced fixes the problem that stopped the database software running on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard under certain combinations of language and region, notably English outside of the US.

FileMaker has delivered the update well ahead of its self-imposed target of November 19, just as the company's Australian managing director Steve McManus recently predicted to iTWire.

The updater, which weighs in at almost 350M, does not include a fix for the Instant Web Publishing feature's incompatibility with Leopard. That is due to be addressed by a second update, expected in December.

An array of other issues are fixed by the update. It seems reasonable to assume that FileMaker had a number of patches ready to go, but their release was brought forward by the urgent need to provide Leopard compatibility.

Affected areas include the automatic database consistency check, printing, the use of external data sources, and scripting.

FileMaker Server also needs an update to work with Leopard, but users may have to wait until early 2008 for that, FileMaker official said.

Some of the changes in 9.0v2 also affect the Windows versions of FileMaker, and Windows updaters are available for FileMaker Pro, FileMaker Pro Advanced, FileMaker Server, and FileMaker Server Advanced.
