Apple's iLife updates herald Leopard's arrival

Business IT - Technology

A set of updates for Apple's iLife suite deliver compatibility with Leopard (which debuts today), but some changes apply to older versions of Mac OS X.

iLife Support 8.1.1 refreshes software shared by all the iLife '08 applications, and Apple recommends its installation to all users, whether they are staying with 10.4 or upgrading to 10.5. As usual, the description of what's changed is vague, referring to stability, compatibility and "other minor issues".

The other updates apply to applications from iLife '06.

GarageBand 3.0.5 has the sole purpose of delivering Mac OS X 10.5 compatibility, and so it is not listed when you run Software Update on a Mac running 10.3 or 10.4.

iDVD 6.0.4, on the other hand, "improves overall stability" as well as providing Leopard compatibility, so should be installed on systems running Mac OS X 10.3.9 and later.
