Hefty update for Apple's iLife

Business IT - Technology

Apple has released a substantial set of updates to its iLife 08 application suite.

With a total download size in excess of 175M, there are sure to be grumbles from those on entry-level broadband plans with a 200M per month quota, but that's life in the big city.

The starting point is iLife Support 8.1, a prerequisite for the individual application updates. As is often the case, Apple's description merely states that it "improves overall stability, addresses a number of other minor issues, and supports general compatibility issues."

Much the same is said for iDVD 7.0.1.

The notes about GarageBand 4.1 give a little more indication about what to expect, with fixes for Magic GarageBand, display issues, and of course those "general compatibility issues." Compatibility with third-party audio software is also improved.

iPhoto 7.1 is described in slightly more detail. Apart from the usual generic improvements, it provides new greeting card themes and addresses issues associated with moving photos between Events.

iMovie 7.1 gets the most detailed description. Some of the fine control that was lost in the transition from iMovie HD to iMovie 7 has returned, with still frame creation, frame-by-frame trimming, manual audio fades, audio ducking, and easier adjustment of transition and still duration among the listed improvements.

The updates can be downloaded via Software Update or from Apple's web site via the above links.
