Windows Server 2008 delayed

Business IT - Technology

Organisations waiting for the arrival of Windows Server 2008 face a further delay of up to three months, Microsoft has revealed.

The news was disclosed in the company's Windows Server Division Weblog.

Instead of being released to manufacturing by the end of December, that target has now slipped to the first quarter of 2008. No specific reason was disclosed, merely that "we would rather spend a little more time to meet the high quality bar that our customers and partners deserve and expect."

The February 27 2008 launch event (and its followups at other locations) planned for Windows Server 2008, Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server 2008 will proceed as planned.

Exactly when Microsoft will be able to ship its new server operating system to customers remains open.
