NAB trusts VoIP for dealing room system

The National Australia Bank has chosen IPC - a US-based provider of mission-critical communications systems - to engineer and install VoIP technology for its relocated treasury division on a new dealing floor in Brisbane.

IPC claims to have pioneered the use of VoIP on the trading floor in 2001 and to be still the only provider to have clients trading live via IP. Today it claims to provides trading floor solutions and services used by over 105,00 traders in the world's largest financial services institutions in more than 40 countries.

For the NAB installation it will supply both the back end infrastructure and desktop environment. The new Brisbane dealing room will be equipped with IPC's IQMX, claimed to one of the world's first IP-based trading room desktops claimed to extends the functionality of the switch beyond the physical trading floor to extend IP from the network into the enterprise environment.

According to IPC, the NAB installation in Brisbane is one of only a handful of dealing rooms worldwide running a fully integrated IP solution, not just on the trading floor. Although the new IQMX turrets are in Brisbane they are run off a switch installed in Sydney over the bank's own network.
