iLife 08 brings new features to all components

Business IT - Technology

Along with the new iMacs, Apple has updated its iLife software suite.
iLife 08 includes new versions of the iMovie video editing program, the iPhoto photo manager, the GarageBand music composer and iWeb web site builder.

In addition to support for new AVCHD, HDV and DV camcorders plus digital cameras, iMovie 08 speeds editing and manages a video library spread over multiple drives. It also includes additional sharing options including YouTube and the new .Mac Web Gallery.

The key feature of iPhoto 08 is the way it automatically groups photos into 'events' representing a day's worth of pictures. Where necessary, days can be split into multiple Events or several days can be combined into one. Other improvements include hiding selected photos (eg, those that aren't so bad that they should be discarded, but not good enough for everyday use) and improved searching. iPhoto 08 also integrates with the .Mac Web Gallery.

New to GarageBand 08 is Magic GarageBand, a simpler way of creating a song. Advanced users are also catered for with multi-take recording, the ability to more easily copy and paste sections of music, and support for 24-bit  audio interfaces. iWeb 08 features new templates, support for Google Maps and AdSense, plus and photos or movies from .Mac Web Galleries. Content from other sites supporting HTML snippets can also be incorporated in iWeb-created pages.

iLife 08 costs $US79/$A99.
