The Government has offered Australia's three mobile operators, and vividwireless, renewal of their existing spectrum allocated on 15 year licences in the late 90s and early 2000s at set prices, while the Government expects to rake in $3 billion.
The FR-1000 keeps critical statistics on each flow in real time - the source, destination, the amount of traffic running, the duration, and other key statistics that define the nature and health of the flow.
To ensure sustained performance and quality for critical 'real time' services like video and voice, the router uses another Anagran innovation, Behavioural Traffic Control, to prohibit any flows from using more than their appropriate share of network resources.
Behavioural Traffic Control adjusts every flow's class, rate, or route to control P2P or any other traffic type. To "guarantee real time application performance delivery - flawless video and voice, faster downloads, and minimal delay for all traffic." It is also claimed to reduce network costs by a factor of 10.
Anagran claims that the FR-1000 has been running in multiple service provider and corporate network test environments for over six months where it has proven to enable flawless IP video and improved traffic control while consuming less energy. The product is now available for world-wide revenue shipments directly from Anagran and will also be available and supported through licensed resellers augmented with direct support assistance from Anagran at www.anagran.com.
Roberts has been credited with being one of the four persons most closely associated with the birth of the Internet, the other three being Leonard Kleinrock, Robert Kahn and Vinton Cerf. Prior to founding Anagran he was CTO of Caspian Networks, originally founded by Roberts as Packetcom in 1998. He left in 2004 and the company shut its doors and ceased operations in September 2006.
Caspian's mission was very similar to Anagran and it raised over $US85 million in venture capital. According to Light Reading the company's mission was "to build one big honkin' core IP router that would allow carriers to provide unprecedented QOS - even in an all-IP network. But by early 2002, Caspian had washed out all its early investors and was still hungry for cash."
Roberts' new company is backed by four venture capitalists: Advanced Technology Ventures , ArrowPath, Draper Fisher Jurvetson and Argon Venture Partners. The company has not revealed how much funding these investors have provided.
