Movable Type heads for open source

Business IT - Technology

An open source project to develop and maintain a GPLed version of Six Apart's Movable Type blogging software will commence in the third quarter.

Movable Type Open Source (MTOS) will be based on Movable Type 4, which has just gone into beta.

According to company officials, the move is a response to customers and developers that want to customise Movable Type or bundle it with open source products. The idea of MTOS has been considered for some time, butthe company decided it should be based on Movable Type 4, "the culmination of more person years of development than any other release of Movable Type".

Development of the commercial version will continue, regardless of the MTOS project.
