It's KISS for Nokia's new 3109 'basic' cellphone

Business IT - Technology

Nokia's latest cellphone eschews the trend for ever more bells and whistles: it's a basic phone with long battery life and lots of memory for contacts, calendar and email, but it does have a music player.

Nokia says the 3109 classic is aimed at "consumers and companies who appreciate simplicity and value for money." It adheres to  "traditional design and familiar Nokia menu structure" and includes email with attachments, and synchronises calendars and to do lists with personal computers through its USB connection. The memory is expandable to 2GB with a microSD memory card. Up to four hours talk time and up to 16 days standby time are claimed. It has USB and Bluetooth connectivity and a handsfree speaker.

“We recognise that a sizeable number of people just want a mobile phone to stay in touch on their own terms,” said John Barry, director, Mobile Phones, Nokia.

The 3109 will be on sale in Australia and New Zealand in the third quarter of 2007. A retail price in Europe of Euro140 ($A230) has been reported.
