Microsoft set to push hotfix for animated cursor patch

Business IT - Technology

While I was wishing that Microsoft had used Windows Update to proffer the Realtek hotfix for the GDI patch that fixed the animated cursor vulnerability, the company was coming to the same conclusion.

According to the Microsoft Security Response Center Blog, this week's Patch Tuesday updates will include the hotfix. It will only be offered to systems that are running relevant software, but it turns out the issue goes wider than just the Realtek HD Audio control panel.

The other applications known to be affected are ElsterFormular (a German finance program), TUGZip (a freeware archiving utility) and CD-Tag (software for ripping CDs, and converting and tagging audio files).

The April Patch Tuesday release will include four bulletins for Windows (at least one of which is rated "critical") and a "critical" bulletin for Microsoft Content Management Server.
