Photoshop Extended for film and video market

Business IT - Technology

Photoshop CS3 will be offered in an Extended version for film, video and multimedia professionals, Adobe has announced.

While the regular version of Photoshop CS3 will continue to meet the needs of photographers and designers, Photoshop CS3 Extended will integrate 3D and motion graphics, image measurement and analysis.

Company officials said the Extended package will also be useful for architecture, engineering, healthcare and science applications.

For example, Photoshop CS3 Extended allows the extraction of quantitative and qualitative information from images, such as spotting changes in X-rays over time, or accurately measuring objects within images.

The number of specialised image formats supported by the program has also been increased.

On the creative side, the Extended package will allow 3D model visualisation and texture editing (including paint and clone over multiple video frames), the incorporation of rich 3D content into 2D compositions and the creation of animations from a series of images

"We never imagined that Photoshop would someday help make major motion pictures, let alone save lives," said John Loiacono, senior vice president of Adobe's creative solutions business unit.

Really? Read on to see why we're not convinced about that.
